Mauri from the Sustainable Tourism & Research Division (STRD)!

In this issue, we are pleased to present the newly formatted Sustainable Tourism Newsbeat, which our division produces on a monthly basis.

The newsletter will now feature one SPTO member country per issue, with the aim of highlighting key initiatives being undertaken by the National Tourism Office (NTO), progress being made towards the 2030 agenda, local sustainability champions and NTO CEO’s update on national programmes related to their sustainability journey as well as research and statistics development.

This change has been driven by our desire to strengthen our ties with and understanding of our membership and in response to our Members’ and partners request for sharing sustainable practices, information and tools. Increased awareness of the work which our members are doing and goals that they are pursuing will enable our team and indeed the organisation as a whole to better align to the needs of our members. Moreover, through this resource and our weekly updates via the Pacific Pulse, we hope to engage more meaningfully with our membership and stakeholders on the work which we are doing for their benefit.

This month, our country in focus is Kiribati and it has been a pleasure working with Petero Manufolau and his team to highlight some of the inspiring work which they have completed and are in the process of initiating. Next month you can look forward to learning more about Fiji and their journey.

We trust that you will find this resource both engaging and useful and as usual we welcome any feedback or queries, which can be directed to sustainable@spto.org
