Former Director of Policy and Planning at the Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority, Miss Alcinda Trawen has recently joined the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) as the Deputy Manager for International Relations, based in Nara, Japan.
Trawen’s journey is an inspiration to Pacific islanders who are interested in progressing their careers internationally. With over 12 years of diverse experience in the policy and planning area, Trawen has contributed significantly to advancing the sustainability agenda for Pacific tourism at international fora as Papua New Guinea’s focal point for UNWTO.
Papua New Guinea and the Pacific will continue to benefit from Trawen’s work, one of which is an exciting regional collaboration between SPTO and UNWTO on a Pacific focused research project on synergies between sustainable tourism growth and product development.
SPTO CEO Chris Cocker also acknowledged the great achievement by Ms Trawen, “SPTO congratulates Alcinda on her new appointment. It is great to have a daughter of the Pacific at UNWTO and we look forward to working closely with her in advocating for sustainable tourism support for the Pacific”.
