With a focus on the development and strengthening of the tourism information statistical base in the region, the development of the PTSS is underway with the recruitment of the Institute for Development of Environmental-Economic Accounting (IDEEA Group) to lead this work.

With extensive experience in the fields of Statistical Development in Asia Pacific, Sustainable Tourism and Environmental-Economic Accounts Statistics, Carl Obst and Mark Lound of IDEEA Group, have already completed an inception report which will guide the development of the PTSS and ensure that the overall objectives of the project are met.

The draft PTSS will be presented to the SPTO Board of Directors for endorsement in May.

Review of Regional Tourism Resource Centre (RTRC) and Pacific Tourism Insights Programme (PTIP)

Nanise Masau of Eagles Consultancy has been appointed to undertake a comprehensive review of the Regional Tourism Resource Centre (RTRC) and Pacific Tourism Insights Programme (PTIP), an exercise which will include recommendations for improving both resources.

With more than 19 years of experience in the industry, most of which was spent in the areas of research and analysis, Nanise Masau has made high-level contributions to Fiji’s National Development Plan, 2021 Fijian Tourism development plan and the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport’s (MITT’s) Strategic and Operational Plan.

This work is expected to be completed in late April.
